Imagine if you had a piece of hardware which could be updated through software. Your old Mac, your old Nikon D3300, even your old Windows PC! Imagine if these were connected to the internet and able to receive firmware updates directly from the manufacturer. It is possible with the JMicron Firmware Update Tool for Mac or Windows! The tool can update nearly all JMicron USB flash drives, SD cards and other storage devices that have been recognized by your computer. This includes a range of devices including SanDisk Cruzer Micro drives, Transcend JetFlash drives and Lexar Professional 400x microSD cards among others. The latest version of the tool can be downloaded from here: JMicron Firmware Update Tool V1.2 Please Note: This version of the firmware update tool can only give you a list of devices it “thinks” are connected to your computer. The up-to-date list of compatible devices from JMicron is located on this page: JMicron Firmware Update Tool V1.2 [Firmware List]. Please browse through the list and see if your device is on there before using the firmware update tool. Step 1: If your device isn’t already connected to your computer, please connect it using a USB port. It is important that you do not use a USB hub! If you have difficulty connecting the device, try another one. Step 2: You will need to have the JMicron Firmware Update Tool downloaded and running on your computer before plugging in the device. The software should be running in the background when you connect the device or when Windows has detected it (generally this happens when you connect the drive). If Windows has not yet detected it, Windows will prompt you to select what type of drive it is when you plug it in. You can elect to format the drive in this step. Step 3: When Windows has finished detecting the drive, plug it in. Step 4: Windows is now asking the device for its firmware version. The JMicron Firmware Update Tool needs to be able to tell it what firmware version the device running so that it knows which firmware update to start downloading. The JMicron Firmware Update Tool does this by starting up with no device connected, then having you plug in your device at which point it will request the device’s current firmware information and report that back to Windows. Step 5: The device should tell Windows that it is running Firmware version 01.00.00 and that it is an SD card. Please note that this is the firmware version for your device and the JMicron Firmware Update Tool will use only the firmware number not the name of your drive (i.e. ‘SD’ or ‘microSD’). cfa1e77820
